Business and Administrative Manager
Joy joins Horton Group as the administrator of our business and office operations. This includes keeping our bills paid, keeping our projects on budget and paid up, keeping a good set of “books,” administering our human resources program, keeping our facilities in operating condition, and of course the very important function of keeping our team members paid, and whatever else we need her to “administer!”
Joy brings over 30 years experience as a business and administrative manager. She started as a teenager, managing the bookkeeping and office in her family’s business. From that small beginning, she has managed a variety of business types, from government offices, an office building’s leasing office, a hardware store, a nursery sales yard to a video production company as well as owned her own business.
Recently, in 2007 Joy graduated Magne Cum Laude with a BFA in Graphic Design from Middle Tennessee State University. Even though she had a pre-existing 30-year career in business management, at that time Joy chose to get her degree, late in life, in graphic design because she loves to be creative and work with computer images, especially typography, and has a special interest in printed media and web design.
Joy has lived in Tennessee since 1998, coming from a prior 24-year stay in Phoenix, Arizona where “it’s just a ‘dry heat’ “ (yeh, right! You just try “dry” at 118 degrees!). Before that, she was raised, as a child on a 40-acre farm in Michigan. She now lives in Nashville with her husband, Mike who operates Precision Handyman. She also has a son who was born in 1987.
In her free time Joy can be found spending time with her toy poodle and boxer. But most of the time she can be found bicycling, backpack hiking, playing racquetball or tennis, bass fishing, and on occasion snorkeling and snowboarding. She completed a Mt. Everest Base Camp Trek in December 2010 with her husband. Joy has a love for the outdoors, wildlife and nature, and is an amateur photographer.
Joy is inspired and overwhelmed by the number of, and the diversity of things to do and experience in life. She feels like there is just not enough time to do all the things she would like to do! Her motto for her life is this familiar snippet:
